Diary Entry #6

Dear Diary,
My name is Kristine Martinez and it is September 25, 1789. I'm finally home in our cozy little house. Today was a pretty humid day, especially since we were all packed in the hall today discussing the issues of the constitution. Well not really me, but people like my father who is an Anti-Federalist, I just had to tag along with him. You see the constitution was written not to long ago by Thomas Jefferson due to the various colonies/states coming together. These colonies/states were Virginia, Georgia, Massachusetts, New colonies/states were Virginia, Georgia, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Delaware, Pennsylvania, North and South Carolina, Rhode Island, and Maryland. As they started coming together as a country, its leaders knew they needed some laws that would guarantee freedom, support peoples individual rights, and other things. Most of what I'm telling you is from what I hear my dad and the others speak of at these meetings. Well the creation of the constitution led to some delegates being unhappy with it. The people divided into 2 groups, the Federalist and Anti-Federalist which is what my father is. The Federalist liked the idea of how it gave too much power to the national government at the expense of the state governments. My father and other people who were Anti-Federalist on the
other hand didn't and wanted individual rights. He and the others demanded the Bill of Rights in exchange for their support and passage of the constitution since the Federalist needed ratification by us and other states. To achieve this, the Federalists agreed that once Congress met, it would draft a bill of rights.I found all of this kind of exciting since we ended up getting what we wanted and I was just so proud of my father. The entire family made a dinner to celebrate, and durng dinner my father told me about the other upcoming states that were to be added to the original colonies: Vermont, Kentucky, Tennesse, Ohio, Lousianna, Indiana, Mississippi, Illinois, and Alabama. So I'm ending this on a very happy note. Bye Diary! Hopefully I will be able to talk to you soon but for now, farewell....
